Storing those cuban cigars properly

by Trevor Wallace

If you are a real cigar aficionado, than please protect your stogies in a humidor. If you don’t have one, they are available in a lot of places and you can find a decent on on the internet too. Cigars (Cubans’s are made perfect!) although built very nicely, they can’t stand the fury that nature throws at them. Especially extreme temperature whether hot or cold or even water damage can ruin a perfect little Cuban cigar.

Cigar humidors are just as big as a decent size shoe box (Although they are available in different sizes and styles). See the thing about Cuban cigars is if the temperature is too high, it looses it’s quality, if the temperature is to low it looses its taste. Whether you are smoking a Cohiba cigar or any other kind, if the temperature isn’t proper, you better get a cigar doctor!

If you are now convinced that you really need a humidor, let me stop you for just a few more minutes. After all, you don’t want a humidor that you don’t need. Now generally speaking, their are three species of humidors. You have the portable humidor, the table humidor and the biggest of them all, the room humidor. The portable humidor is what I like to call ‘On the go’ humidor. These humidors are designed for the person who likes to smoke for 45 minutes maximum and than go to the next business meeting. Portable humidors are also known as ‘Personal’ humidors. The unfortunate part is that you can only store about five to fifteen Cohibas at once. If you are more of a laid back person and would rather enjoy a fine Cuban cigar in the comfort of your own home, than you need to get your self a table humidor. Table humidors are well designed, mostly beautiful in the visuals department and you can store thousands of your favorite Cohibas or any cigars of choice. Now if you are planning to sell your cigars, than I suggest you get yourself a room humidor. A room humidor is exactly what it sounds like - a room that is used to ‘maintain’ cigars. You will only find these in giant or mid-sized cigar shops. Cigars in these giant room sized humidors are very well maintained and naturally smell terrific.

Also did you know that all Cuban cigars are hand made from the time they pick that tobacco to the time they place the appropriate logo on the cigar. I couldn’t believe it until I saw the whole thing go down on a video. To say that I was blown away would be an understatement.

You are probably wondering what kind of humidor will suit you. I suggest the best way to figure that out is to ask yourself “How do I enjoy my Cuban cigars”? Do you enjoy them at home or on the run? Well than you should invest in a portable humidor. A portable humidor can carry up to 3 - 5 cigars at a time and the best part is, you can carry them anywhere. If you like to relax in the comfort of your own home than go for a table humidor. They look great for a conversation piece and can store up to 100 cigars. Finally, if you just want to dedicate a whole room to your Cuban beauties, do it by getting a custom room humidor built. Yes it’s actually possible as a lot of cigar retailers do it.

A room humidor is truly a blessing. It’s beautiful, has the best temperature for your Cuban cigars and and you can literally store a lifetime supply of Cuban cigars. It is also the biggest humidors around and most likely, it is in your locan Cuban cigar shop. That is if you are lucky enough to get Cuban cigars in your city. Besides this type, you should should get a table humidor as it will fit right in your current furniture design.

These are well kept and maintained rooms that are monitored constantly my automatic and pre-set gauges. A portable humidor is what most individual purchase. It is small, affordable and it works. A lot of people get custom designed humidors to reflect their love and appreciation for the cuban cigars. The only downside is that these humidors are fairly small and can only hold 10 - 15 cigars.

So regardless of how many cuban cigars you buy, make sure you got a nice humidor to stack those beauty’s in. Plus only share it with good company - real people who deserve it.
