Excessive Barking: What Is Your Dog Trying To Tell You?
If your dog has been barking a great deal, you might be at your wits end. Barking dogs are one of the banes of a neighborhood, but you might not know what to do, and you might not even know why your dog is barking so loudly or so often. If you have been troubled by your dog barking more than they should, you’ll find that there are several things that you need to keep in mind.
First, you have to know that some dogs were bred to be vocal. Like sporting dogs, such as beagles, and hounds. They were bred to hunt and bay when they are tracking what they are hunting after. Second, most of a dogs barking comes from a lack of neccesities. If your dog has a lack of water, food, or shelter if they are outside dogs, then they will bark to try and communicate this with you. Make sure all the needs are met, and that should help with much of the barking. Also, remember your dog will bark if they are lonely. Give your poor pouch a little love and see if that helps with the barking.
When you are looking at your dog, one thing that you need to keep in mind is that your dog might be bored or anxious. If your dog is kept alone outside for extended periods of time, this might be why they are barking. You’ll find that you can make the problem go away very quickly if you simply bring them in or go out and spend time with your dog. If you are looking to make sure that your dog is feeling less lonely, arrange to have someone come by to see to them while you are at work.
Plus, while you are out there, you may want to check your dogs surroundings. Check and make sure their shelter is leak proof so when it rains they aren’t barking because they are getting soaking wet, or that they have shade to hide from the sun beating down on them during a hot day. Not only will the sun make them bark from discomfort, but it can make them very sick if they are exposed to it long enough.
The last thing you should ever do is punish your dog for barking. This is their way of communicating with you, and being punished for it will only confuse the poor pup. Especially, if they are barking from loneliness or anxiety, this can cause the problem to get worse, hurt you and your dogs relationship.
