4 Tips To Stop Excessive Dog Barking

If your dog has a problem with excessive barking, it’s likely your neighbors know it too. If your dogs have become annoying to your neighbors, it has become a huge problem for you. You may think you are stuck with having to choose between living in your neighborhood or losing your beloved family pet. Well, this is not the case. Excessive dog barking can be stopped. Here are 4 tips to save you from making such a decision.

1. Comfort

Make sure that your dog’s physical accommodations are comfortable. This is first and foremost what you need to look at, because one of the reasons that a dog will bark is because they are uncomfortable. Make sure that your dog has all the food and water that they need, and furthermore make sure that their waste is being picked up regularly. Similarly, if your is outside, make sure that they aren’t being teased or tormented and ensure that they have shelter in case of rain and shade during the summer months.

2. They Have Nothing Better To Do

If you have a dog that barks excessively, they may just be bored, and barking is the only thing they can do. Some dogs are happy just lying around in the sun, but most have energy that needs to be let out. If you only take your dog for a walk during the day, consider taking them for two. When you have time take them to the park, or into the backyard for a little exercise. Some dogs need more mental stimuli than others and easily get bored. So work out their minds. Practice tricks that they already know. This helps when the barking is just out of boredom.

3. Don’t Scold Your Dog

When your dog is barking, one of the worst things that you can do is to stop and yell at them. If your dog is barking because they is anxious, you’ll find that you’re just making the problem worse, and if you are realizing that your dog is barking for company, you’ll find that this is something that will simply frustrate your dog, and confuse them. When you want to quiet your dogs barking, go out there and let them calm down. Remember not to give them attention until they have calmed down for at least a few seconds.

4. Check Their Territory

When you realize that your dog is barking a lot, find out if there is a solid reason behind it. See if anyone is teasing them to make them bark; you may need someone to keep an eye on them while you are at work for that reason. If your dog is barking only when the mailman comes up to your house or for a similar reason, you may simply want to move them to a place where they cannot see or hear the sounds of a supposed intruder.

Make sure that your dog stays quiet and is not a pest is an important part of being a dog owner so keep this in mind.
