Biodiesel: The Fuel of the Future

Biodiesel is considered the fuel of the future because it helps lessen global warming. Biodiesel is produced from domestic, renewable resources like vegetable oils and animal fats. It can be used alone or blended with petroleum.

Scientific research shows that biodiesel reduces net carbon dioxide emissions by 78 percent compared to petroleum diesel. In some countries, it is also cheaper than diesel.

Biodiesel manufacturing facilities make biodiesel through a process called transesterification. In the transesterification process, fats are purified and reacted with alcohol through catalysts such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. They are then transformed into glycerol and esters.

Biodiesel is what remains after the process. Manufacturers can use the fats of animals and a number of plant oils to make the fuel. It can be derived from the plant oils of palm, sunflower, peanut, soybean or canola. Even recycled cooking grease can be made into biodiesel, though it is not the same as raw vegetable oil.

Most cars that run on diesel engines can use biodiesel. Car manufacturers have lists of cars that can run on pure biodiesel. One amazing thing about the fuel is that it acts as a solvent or cleaner. It loosens deposits that could clog the engine. Because of this, it lubricates the engine and makes it run smoother. The result is that the engine actually lasts longer because the fuel leaves few or no deposits at all.

Biodiesel is a renewable and biodegradable fuel. It helps lessen global warming because it has a closed carbon cycle. Biodiesel itself is made from carbon dioxide through photosynthesis in plants. When the carbon dioxide from the fuel is released into the atmosphere, it is easily recycled by plants, which are then later processed again into fuel.

Even with its advantages over petroleum diesel, biodiesel does have a few disadvantages. It has a tendency to produce more nitrogen oxide emissions than diesel, which contributes to smog formation. Another disadvantage is its availability. More promotion and expansion is needed. Despite these problems and some others, biodiesel is still the fuel of choice for environmentalists and people who want to help fight global warming. And with the last two decades of the last century being the hottest in 400 years, we may see a lot more of biodiesel soon.

Finding Various Herbal Remedies for a Bad Breath Condition

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
by Darren Wumoult

If you have chronic halitosis, you may have already tried every brand of gum and mint there is. Although you may have found that you have gotten some results, you are still battling the consistent odor coming from your mouth. If this is the case with you, then perhaps it is time to step up and try some herbal remedies for bad breath, rather than relying on these ineffective masks that do not treat the root cause at all.

These herbal treatments usually address more than the symptoms of bad breath; they treat the actual causes of the bad breath in the first place. So what are these herbal bad breath remedies and how do they work?

Ingredients in Herbal Bad Breath Remedies

There are some common ingredients that one might find in homeopathic or herbal cures or remedies.

One of the most common and the most efficient solutions people use as a remedy for bad breath problems is sweet fennel. This herb performs its work by settling the contents of the stomach and forestalling a build-up in stomach acid. A number of bad breath cases usually result from certain digestive disorders which include problems digesting food as well as constipation. Fennel resolves such problems rather easily and by so doing positively affects your breath situation.

One other homeopathic remedy which is quite useful when it comes to bad breath is silica or silicon dioxide. These compounds tend to occur naturally and help to rid the body of toxins. These are some of the more popular herbal remedies due to the fact that an accumulation of toxins may result in chronic bad breath. You can find silica at your local health food store or at your local pharmacy.

Milk thistle also plays a role as an alternative herbal treatment for halitosis problems. It is a herb which serves as a restorative ingredient and helps the liver perform properly. Failure of the liver to perform optimally usually leads to toxin buildup which affects your breath adversely.

Other less popular solutions which help with halitosis issues are cranberries, green raw guava and citrus fruits like oranges. These remedies will assist with exterminating bacteria in your mouth. If you want breath which is long lasting and fresh, putting cloves in your mouth but not chewing them can help as well.

What to Remember

When you think of bad breath and the necessary herbal remedies for resolving this condition, certain things should be remembered. One of these things is that no herbal remedy will work if you neglect oral hygiene and your health completely. Bad breath which occurs due to failure to floss or rinse properly cannot be permanently resolved by taking one pill or the other. Something else you need to remember is that a lot of water is required when using herbal remedies in order to ensure that they are properly absorbed by your system

What is a Cash Out Mortgage Refinancing Plan?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
by Andrew McAllister

Refinancing your home mortgage loan is a great way to get a lower rate of interest. Did you know that you can also get additional money above and beyond the balance of your existing mortgage loan? With a cash out refinance, you can do exactly that.

Cash Out Loan providers pay off the original loan and provide a check for the balance excess. The extra funds can be used for a variety of options including home improvement, paying off outstanding debts or for vacationing. The funds are over and above the old mortgage payoff amount.

Home equity is required to obtain the cash out mortgage refinance option. High-risk customers with poor credit ratings and low equity will not be eligible for cash out refinancing plans from the majority of banks or lenders. Equity is the key collateral anticipated to qualify for cash out refinance plans through any lender.

When you receive the money from your cash out refinance, it is yours. You are not responsible for giving the details of your expenditures to anyone, including the refinance lender. It is up to you how to plan to use it and for what reason. The money you receive is simply added to the total amount of your new refi (short for refinance) and since you are making payments on the loan, you don’t owe anyone an explanation of any sort.

Consumers may want to consider using the money from your cash out refinance to pay off any high interest credit card debts or outstanding debts that can impact a good credit rating. Additional considerations may include remodeling your kitchen, paying off student loans or financing for your children’s education. Choose wisely how the additional funds should be used and take advantage of the lower interest rate in the process.

Money used for home improvement can create additional tax deductions on annual tax returns. Tax laws change annually and advice obtained from an experienced tax attorney can provide the most current information about tax-deductible expenses.

A homeowner with a large home equity can take advantage of lower interest rates under the Cash Out Mortgage. The Cash Out plans are available through a variety of banks and lending agencies. Refinancing of high interest credit cards or other high interest debt could help eliminate those debts easily and quickly while improving borrower credit scores. Debts can be returned to manageable levels. Creating financial freedom for consumers is part of the refinancing considerations for borrowers and can remove the stress that accompanies debt.

Consumers should research available refinance plans and talk to friends, coworkers and family that used a Cash Out loan to refinance in the past.

Benefits of a Home Sauna

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
by Trey W. Ludwig

Today people are on the search for health alternatives. They are more conscientious about their well-being and they want what works. Saunas have been utilzed for many years by many people and the positive benefits of the sauna’s dry heat are immeasurable.

While the most common experience people have with a sauna is at their local gym, there are many who are discovering the cost-effectiveness of having a sauna in their own home. Home saunas are cost-effective for two reasons: one, they are becoming more affordable and two, you do not have to go out and pay over and over again for the same sauna service at your local spa or gym.

There are several different types of saunas that you can choose from:

* Indoor or Outdoor * Sauna that holds Two Four or Many * Finnish * Infrared * Electric or Wood

If you are someone who likes to do it yourself, then you may want to consider building your own home spa. It is not a very hard project at all, in fact, you can get a home sauna pre-made, which only requires following simple instructions.

When it comes to your health, a home sauna, particularly the infrared sauna, is worth its weight in gold for the following reasons:

* It can help reduce your body pain * It can help lower your blood pressure * It can help you detox * It can help reduce your stress

The infrared sauna is newer on the scene and as noted above, it provides unique benefits for your health and well-being. Bascally when you are in an infrared sauna you are being surrounded by far infrared heat that penetrates deeply into your joints, muscles and tissues. This process speeds up the oxygen flow and increases circulation. It also promotes detoxification, which is critical due to the increasing amounts of toxins in our diet and environment. This includes fat soluble toxins such as, PCBs, and hexane, and toxic minerals such as mercury, lead and cadmium.

Because of its user-friendly nature, people naturally prefer to use far infrared saunas and will continue to do so on a regular basis. The infrared sauna produces much cooler air and at the same time provides the amount of warmth you desire. This makes it much easier to breath. The distinctive feeling of well-being reported by users as an after-effect, is a big draw as well. Infrared saunas may also be used with the door fully open if the only effect desired is infrared penetration or if a very cool, minimal-sweating experience is desired as a pre-activity warm-up while fully clothed. Due to this fact alone, more people are likely to use their saunas on a regular basis.

More Home Sauna Information

* Skin brushing combined with infrared sauna use can enhance cleansing as pores open to ease the release of toxic debris. Skin tone and elasticity improve as well as acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin roughness.

* The heaters are the center point of your sauna. If they goes bad they can be expensive to replace so the best thing to do is get a warranty that will cover the heaters for as long as you own the sauna.

* As far as your pocketbook goes, infrared heaters use less energy and operate at a lower temperature, which saves on your energy bill.

Coffee - Some Fact and Some Fiction

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
by Javica Holman

That coffee can generate so many tales of romance and intrigue but also be at the heart of such a hard-headed business is truly amazing. From its start all the way up to present day, you will find that this dark and pungent drink has cured, enriched and fascinated millions, if not billions the world over.

Legends abound about the birth of the coffee bean plant. We can find some reliable history that will put its beginnings in Ethiopia around 500 BC. People observed the stimulating effects of the plants berries. Wayward travelers would then bring these to Arabia and there coffee would acquire its name.

During the age of the Renaissance, scientific thought and the arts were growing popular. It was at this time that commercial production and world wide distribution of what some labeled ‘that heathenish liquid’ also began. We see that by the end of the 18th century plantations along with drinking popularity had spread to Asia, The Middle East, Europe, South and North America.

History has been kind to coffee by ascribing the health effects of coffee as bordering on the miraculous. As with many acclaimed miracles, lets find the fact from the fiction. Studies have shown a reduction from cirrhosis of the liver. Asthma suffers have less sever attacks. Another study done at Harvard followed over 100,000 individuals for almost 20 years. Their conclusions were that moderate consumption of coffee can can help reduce diabetes.

The antioxidants that are found in drinks like wine, are also found in coffee These are what are touted as helping keep hearts healthier. We do find that critics argue over if the pros outweigh the cons. Coffee is also a diuretic. This motivates you to experience more frequent urination. Yet others assert that the stimulation from caffeine can lead to long term nerve degeneration. If you have ever experienced caffeine withdrawal, than you know first hand it can lead to increased sleeplessness and headaches.

What ever side you come down on in this debate coffee is here to stay. Just the sheer economics alone will guarantee that. As a commodity coffee is second only to oil. You will find it exchanges in New York, Hong Kong, London to Lima. There are currently over 500 billion cups of coffee consumed each year. Called ‘black gold’ we see it only growing in popularity. While in most cases adults drink only one or more cups daily, retail sales hovers near the $12 billion level annually.

When we add to those retail figures the number of raw beans, roasters, grinders, brewers and cups bought for the home, well those figures grow to an astounding level. With its rise as a both basic commodity as well as a specialty retail product the future for coffee businesses looks both bright and unstoppable. Not counting other vendors, Starbucks operates over 10,000 outlets world wide.

The home is starting to replace specialty coffee shops for your favorite cup of coffee. Most people make a cup at home and then buy one from a coffee shop on the way to work. There are so many blends of coffee we will write an article on that in the future. At home you have the choice of roasters, types of brewers or splurge on your own espresso machine. Since espresso was invented in 1901 it has continued its rise in popularity ever since.

The Beagle: A History, The Story of the Beagle

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
by Michelle Adams

If you are looking for a new dog for your family, consider the many attributes of the Beagle. This low-maintenance hound is high on energy and is usually a friendly and playful choice for most clans. But where did the Beagle come from originally? It seems that this breed has a bit of a cloudy history, although Beagle-type dogs can be traced back as far as 400 B.C. in Greece.

However, the Beagle as we know it today probably originated in Great Britain in the first part of the second century. Beagles are thought to be a descendant of the Talbot Hound, along with Foxhounds and the Southern Hound.

The Beagle spent many years in England developing as a breed by many in the field. During the middle of the 1800’s, Reverend Phillip Honeywood began breeding Beagles that are the closest to the dogs that we are familiar with today. However, these animals were bred for function rather than looks.

Another man from England, Thomas Johnson, took the breeding process to the next level by creating dogs that were beautiful as well as skilled hunters. When Beagles first came to the United States, the same care was unfortunately not taken to keep the breed intact.

The good news is that a man named General Richard Rowett decided to import English Beagles to breed, and completed the process in a deliberate and careful fashion. This resulted in Beagles making an appearance with the American Kennel Association in 1885, and standards being established for this breed by 1888, when the National Beagle Club was formed. Today, Beagles are still used as hunting dogs, although many more are simply enjoyed as family pets, due to their abundant energy and friendly natures.

If you are considering beagle as a family pet you can rest assured that you will be getting a dog with a rich and colorful history. Whether you plan to use your dog as a hunting companion or simply a companion to curl up on the couch with on cold winter nights, this dog can fit the bill.

This is why it is so important that you take the time to do plenty of research before you purchase your Beagle by reading articles like this, scanning the Internet for up to date Beagle information and talking to experts like reputable breeders and veterinarians for information and recommendations.

By understanding a bit of the history of the breed and collecting other types of Beagle information you will go far in helping yourself to find the right dog for you. You can find this information through articles like this, by studying websites on the Internet and by talking to your veterinarian or responsible breeder. The right dog will bring your family joy for years to come. Enjoy your Beagle!

Tips and Tricks to Making Your Own Flavorful Salsa at Home

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
by Tony Bueler

Some homemade salsas have been a favorite for years and even generations. Families have been handing down their own special family recipes to successive generations and kept a long tradition of making their own salsa.

It’s easy to go to the nearby corner grocery store and pick up a jar of salsa, but making your own at home can be lots of fun and quite rewarding! If you have had a productive garden and have an overstock of tomatoes and peppers, salsa is an excellent way to use them up!

When you do this once, you may find that stocking up your pantry with homemade salsa will be a regular goal of yours! You only need a basic supply to make salsa, a simple recipe and the process of making the salsa.

Typical salsa ingredients are variations of the following: tomatoes, green pepper, Jalapeno, red chili pepper, garlic salt or powder, onion, cilantro, lemon juice. Don’t be afraid to experiment!

And salsa is full of antioxidants and vitamins that are known to keep your body stay healthy!

Be sure to tweak the ingredients to your taste - Adding more jalapenos and other peppers will make your salsa hotter and spicier salsa. Alternatively, for a milder salsa, add more tomatoes and reduce the number.

It is important to know that the full strength and flavor of spices deteriorate with time so make sure to use fresh spices. And always use fresh oils as well. Like spices, oils will lose their flavor over time - some can even go rancid if kept too long.

When making salsa you will need to wear rubber gloves to skin irritation from the chili peppers. And don’t touch your face or rub your eyes while handling hot peppers.

You will need all the supplies that you typically need when you are preserving tomatoes. You will need canning jars, lids and bands, a hot water bath canner, a large pot to cook the salsa, strainer, jar lifter, large bowl, and the ingredients from your recipe. Thoroughly wash all the utensils you will be using and boil the jars and bands. Leave the jars and the lids in the hot water up until the time you are ready to use them.

A freezer is also a good place to store your salsa. After making a large batch simply divide it into smaller containers and put them in your freezer. Imagine being able to enjoy your fresh and tasty salsa year round!

Stop Barking Dogs The Easy Way

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
by Lacy Holly

We’ve all heard one at one point or another in our lives. A dog that just seems to bark at anything and everything and wont stop. It is even worse when it is your own dog and you have no clue what is causing it or how to even stop barking dogs in the first place.

Thankfully all dogs bark for a reason, even though we may not always know right off the bat what reason that is. More often than not, your dog is barking to warn you of strangers that are walking near your home.

If your dog is a chronic barker then you may need to look at several different causes before finding the right one that will stop a barking dog successfully. The majority of the time a dog barks because he is bored. If you have been very busy lately and haven’t been spending as much time with your furry friend as you’d like this may be the reason for your barking troubles.

Also, check to see if your dog has food and water, this may be a reason why your dog wont stop barking. Also consider the temperature outside. Is it too hot or too cold for your furry friend to feel comfortable? If so, consider getting him a dog house or some sort of protection and shelter.

You can usually stop barking dogs by just making sure they have everything they need, spending high quality time when you are home and providing some nice toys for them to play with when you are not around.

Training your dog will make a huge impact because in doing so, you will be able to teach him a command that will tell him when to stop barking. Plus, as you spend time training your dog he will grow to trust you more and you will grow to love him more.

Be considerate of your neighbors. Having been a neighbor of a chronic barker myself I know how stressful it can be to hear a barking dog all day long and not be able to do much of anything about it. If your neighbor comes to you and asks you to do something about your dog, don’t be defensive. You must realize that your dog may act differently when you are a work.

Even though our goal is to stop dog barking, we don’t want to get rid of it completely. Barking is the easiest way for our dogs to communicate with us and we don’t want to destroy that ability. So be sure to make sure his needs are fulfilled and then teach him when it is alright to bark and of course, when to stop barking.
