Quick Bathroom Decorating Tips

Thursday, April 24th, 2008
by Johan Bearstein

During recent years, bathrooms have increased in size and this has meant new decoration techniques have been developed; this room can now be more attractive and one that you will be proud of. With the amount of time we spend in this room why shouldn’t it look and feel relaxing and an enjoyable? Why shouldn’t this room be a pleasant place to visit especially when you may relax in a bath for 30 minutes or more.

It is often a good showing point for your ideas when your friends come around to see how you have used your bathroom decorating ideas. This will prove you take pride in your home. We all take it for granted that our living area and kitchen will look well presented so there is absolutely no reason why you cannot do the same for your bathroom too.

Some of the best bathroom decorating ideas often come from methods you have probably used around the rest of your home and will keep it in tune with your overall style. So if you like the look of certain plants on small tables throughout the house then there is no reason why this same theme should not continue in the bathroom as well. Small round or square tables are also good for magazines, which is something else that will not look out of place in your bathroom.

This can also work the other way, if you have used certain decorating or furnishing ideas in your bathroom then why not extend some of those to other areas of your home? Wall and floor tile are a prime example of this transfer of decorating ideas which can be seen in many homes.

But a bathroom tile that sets of one room can also provide a welcome alternative to the bland, white look so popular in kitchen these days. Tiles are usually the first aspect of decorating to be looked at for both the kitchen and the bathroom but there are many more decorating ideas which should not be overshadowed.

If you look at something like a soap dish or tray for example; this is used constantly but very few people take any notice as they are normally quite bland objects. Some home decoration periodicals have sections on making items for you home including soap dishes and trays.

One uncommon design for a soap tray was to make it by hand out of clay, which you must admit is quite novel. Other great ideas include positioning a calming picture or print opposite the bath like a lake, seascape or landscape for example. With the materials and information available today, there is no excuse not to turn your bathroom into something very special.

Cleaning Out the Garage Is Key To Organization

Thursday, April 24th, 2008
by Jerry Blackburn

The garage is a wonderful storage area. Even though the space is limited, it still presents great storage opportunities. The garage is a great choice when it comes to improving on storage space. There are many ways to go about this task.

One way is to purchase a modular storage kit that has parts and components that you can switch up to assist in solving many storage issues. You can also build a work bench for work space. Another choice is to add to the garage. If you have too much stuff stored in your garage, a modular storage kit may not give you the needed solution. Reduce the clutter of seasonal items and items by placing some of them in a basement.

Some of the solutions that are available are cabinets, storage units and more shelving. . If items need to be protected from dust and moisture then cabinets are perfect. Shelves will give you more space and they are less expensive than some of the other options. Nifty clear containers for storage can be purchased for very low prices.

Think of how great it will be the next time you are thinking about pulling out your bike and you don’t have to search for it in the garage. Consider what it would be like not having to get up an extra hour early just to locate your fishing equipment in the garage. Just think about how great it will feel to walk into the garage and know exactly where things are. Imagine all of the time and stress you can eliminate by cleaning out the garage.

Put like items with like items. This is the best way to keep things in their place. By separating everything into categories you will be able to go into the garage and know that whatever you are looking for will be in a certain spot.

Use you imagination when deciding what to do with your garage. It is a great place for storage but it can be so much more. Clean out the garage and find that extra space you have been longing for. Change it into a place of relaxation or a neat storage area.

When you are cleaning out your garage, toss out those items you never use. Do not flip through every magazine or search through old bags of clothes you haven’t seen in years. All of the stuff that you have not used in the past year should be thrown out. If you have not seen it in a year, you really do not need it. This can be a difficult part of the organizing process but once you do it, you will feel so much better. Months later you will have forgotten all about whatever it was you threw out.

Options For Kids In Online Entertainment

Thursday, April 24th, 2008
by Chris Channing

Children are often associated with having a very small attention span. But kids are always entertained by the wonders of coloring books- whether they be online or offline. But as parents soon come to find, the online versions of coloring books have very interesting benefits. It’s interesting to see online coloring books save time, effort, and money for hard working parents.

Coloring pages that come in stores will commonly be a few dollars. By itself, this isn’t necessarily a terribly expensive price. But as kids can go through such books at a rate of several per month, the costs add up for consumers who don’t necessarily have a large fortune ready to suffice the coloring needs of children. In this case, the Internet has many coloring websites that are completely free.

Online coloring books are considered a mess-free alternative to the physical counterparts that often leave children and the surrounding environment all too messy. Crayons and paints can easily stain walls, clothing, and other materials if one is not careful. It’s often much easier to simply allow children access to online coloring pages and save the effort of cleaning up a mess, rather than pay money for the physical coloring books and exert extra effort in cleaning afterwards.

For kids who want to color on the go, such as in a car or airplane, the Internet is probably a poor decision. But the neat thing about some online coloring websites is the fact that kids can print out the coloring pages for later usage. This not only still saves money for the consumer, but gives children something to do on long trips that would otherwise be frustrating for parents.

Children who have imaginations that run wild are often unsatisfied with the common coloring book. This is because printing costs allow for only a limited amount of pages to be printed in order for the publisher to make a profit. Thanks to such costs, children may only get a few designs to color in. Online resources, however, contain thousands of different designs that are continually updated- meaning boredom will never set in.

Children also have much to gain from using online resources for coloring books. It is common for a child to get frustrated with only using a few colors to fill in their masterpiece with. If that’s the case- they will be overjoyed in knowing that current technologies commonly allow for thousands of different colors to be displayed on a computer screen without any effort at all.

Final Comments

All in all, the average coloring book still serves a purpose. But the online alternative offers so many more benefits that it is just a better choice to side with technology. The fact that coloring books can be free, have thousands of designs, and even thousands of colors in which to use can equate into hours upon hours of entertainment. And for parents looking for a peace of mind, this can be a very valuable aspect of online coloring communities indeed.

General Information On The Vertical Wheel Chair Lift

Thursday, April 24th, 2008
by Febbe Wallace

Perhaps one of the inventions that the demands of this modern world can’t do without is the wheel chair. These equipment are simply irreplaceable when it comes to mobility for the physically-incapable. Wheel chairs started out as manual mobility devices and have been upgraded to battery charged or electrically powered devices. Lifts were then designed to glide through staircases so that users don’t need helpers to carry them. Today, these devices have been made so much easier to use. The vertical wheel chair lift is now being used in virtually every kind of building application. Whether you are in the home, office or simply visiting a place, everyone deserves to have easy access and comfort while traveling.

What is a vertical wheel chair lift?

This is simply a platform with the ability to vertically lift a wheel chair or an individual from a ground position to a more elevated level. It resembles an elevator and is in fact considered a home elevator to most users.

What are the kinds of vertical wheel chair lifts?

There are generally two types: the electric vertical wheel chair lifts and hydraulic vertical lifts. An electric vertical wheel chair lift requires electric power while a hydraulic one does not-prices may therefore differ; so choose wisely according to your specific needs.

Vertical wheel chair lift comes in different models. There is the usual elevator-style lift that is fitted within four walls (minor renovation may therefore be needed in your home). Then there is the enclosed model, which has a platform that automatically encloses with four walls when the wheelchair is on it and ready to be lifted. Other models are smaller in size, have no ceiling, or have only platforms to raise the wheelchair to shorter levels such as when elevating to get into a vehicle or single floor step. Again, costs may differ because of the varying structures, but remember, there are some features you may or may not need.

Where can I use vertical wheel chair lifts?

There is more than one answer to this question. The vertical wheel chair lift is being used everywhere from homes, auditoriums, hospitals, offices to old buildings.

Residential Homes - Homes with more than 2 stories can definitely benefit from a vertical wheel chair lift for easy access to the top floor.

Schools and Universities - Auditoriums, which are usually found in schools and universities, are known to have many steps and so can be very difficult for students who are physically challenged. A smaller sized vertical wheel chair lift would be appropriate for these types of setting.

Establishments - Older buildings often do not have elevators that are as spacious as the modern ones. Therefore wheelchairs usually cannot fit into their elevators. Older establishments can easily install a vertical wheel chair lift.

What features should I look for?

Safe for Users - A good vertical wheel chair lift should have an anti-slip platform for maximum safety, especially if the area is busy or outdoors. It should be low enough for wheelchairs to easily roll on and off of it and have safety railings.

Start Your Vegetable Garden The Easy Way

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008
by Tom Johnson

It’s important to emphasize that you need to draw a plan of your vegetable garden first. When doing this, always leave space to get at your vegetables for harvesting and maintenance. You’ll also find that drawing your plan to scale will be a great help in allowing you to decide where your vegetables are to be planted. You will make excellent use of the space you have available by doing this.

Sit down and write a list of the vegetables you would like to grow. A couple of tips here… 1. Check your local area and only list the vegetables that are easy to obtain. 2. Resist any temptation to list any rare, exotic vegetables. They will be hard to get, expensive and even harder to grow.

Map out where you’d like all of your plants to go in your garden. Be sure to plan carefully, because improper planning can lead to disasters later. Once you develop your plan, it’s very important to stick to it.

While you’re still in the planning stage, study your vegetable choices to find out what each plant needs. Some prefer full sunlight, others will want part shade and then there are the ones that require full shade. Doing this will help you to decide on the positioning of your plants to give you the best possible harvest.

If you’re low on space, you can utilize the French cultivation method. This is an easy way to make the most out of the little space you have. Let’s say you wish to sow spinach and carrots. You’d take one packet of each and mix them together.

The thinking behind this method is that spinach grows a lot quicker than carrots, it also breaks up the soil and gives the carrots a better chance to grow. Just sow your mixed seeds into a 1/2 inch deep furrow and cover with soil.

You can harvest some young spinach in approximately 4 weeks, which starts to thin it out to give the carrots room. You’ll find that as the carrots begin to mature, the spinach will be almost finished and you’ll have a bountiful harvest of succulent carrots.

Another illustration would be parsley or lettuce with radishes. This system can be used with lots of vegetables that mature at different times. Early varieties of radish sown with turnips and lettuce is often done in France.

The radishes grow extremely quickly, and are gone by the time the lettuce starts to mature. Then the turnips don’t get large until the lettuce has been harvested. If you’re planting your rows in an east-west orientation, you should plant all of your taller plants on the north side.

You should always make sure to plant things like corn, which is probably the tallest plant you would grow in a vegetable garden, in a position where it doesn’t interfere with the sunlight reaching your smaller plants.

Of course the reverse of this can be useful if you’re wanting to grow vegetables that prefer dappled sunlight or shade. You can be imaginative and make use of larger plants to shade these smaller ones. A case in point would be to grow a tall row of peas or beans to provide shade for a cool climate vegetable like spinach.

This could help you grow shade-loving vegetables in your garden, even if you don’t have any shady spots available. By being creative with placement, you might be able to grow vegetables you never thought you’d be able to grow in your location!

by Ancellin Marshall

A vessel sink is a sink that rests on a vanity countertop or on top of a piece of furniture. This article is not just going to tell you about all of the different kinds of vessel sink vanities but it will tell you how to install vessel sinks as well!

Vessel sinks that come in two major styles, the vessel sink vanities and the bathroom vessel sinks. Bathroom vanity cabinet sinks are also very popular. As previously stated, a they are basically a sink that simply sits on top of another surface. For example, a vessel sink can sit on top of your bathroom counter or it can be a stand alone sink. While there are some sinks that sit inside the bathroom counter top that are billed as vessel sinks, these are probably not what you are looking for.

Vessel sinks, whether they are the sink vanities, the bathroom vessels or the bathroom cabinet sinks, chances are that you chose the vessel sink because it is different from your typical bathroom sink. Vessel sinks show your home’s personal style in a much more direct way than a simple sink that is a basic basin, just sitting there inside the bathroom counter.

There are a number of vessel sinks to choose from. In fact, there are as many vessel sinks to choose from as there are people’s personalities. Whether you are looking for a sink for the bathroom and want to add a vanity sink to your bedroom (if that is possible) there are plenty of online catalogs to look through to help you make your choice. The vessel sinks for the bathroom are sometimes just a basin that is made to sit on top of your existing countertop (which will have to be remodeled when you take out the old sink) and sometimes they are a freestanding bathroom cabinet sink. The space you have will be the primary player in the decision that is made on your vessel sink vanity.

Of course you must install it in order to gain the beauty offered by a vessel sink. This is not much unlike the installation of any other sink and can be a little complicated. Step-by-step vessel sink installation instructions are available on websites devoted to this task, however it is highly suggested that you follow the instructions from the sinks manufacturer. This involves more than just building cabinetry and countertop then attaching the sink on top. Vessel sinks are functional and have the requisite plumbing and pipes that ensure practical beauty.

Yes, you will be able to design your own functional work of art to mirror your personal style. The cookie cutter sink that comes with your home’s bathroom, unless you are actually building your house yourself, will be a distant memory once you install your vessel sink. But if you plan a DIY vessel vanity installation make sure to acquire at least basic plumbing and construction knowledge and skills before attempting the installation. As simple as is it looks plumbing can be somewhat complicated. Once installed, every time it is used marvel at the vessel sink vanity that reflects your personality.

Air can be kept outside effectively using the Twin Draft Guard. Would a room be warmed more quickly with a window somewhat open or completely closed?

The Twin Draft Guard’s Draft Proof Seal makes sure to prevent excess air from outside from seeping into your home, allowing a comfortable temperature to be easily attainable while saving energy.

I decided to invest in the Twin Draft Guard, and was very impressed with its results. It fit well, not only on my standard sized doors, but, with a little bit of adjustment, fit snugly on my irregular sized doors as well. I keep a Twin Draft Guard on all of my doorways leading to the outdoors and it has proved extremely effective.

In the past, I have used a variety of items, such as towels, to place underneath my door in the event of severe winters in order to retain the heat in my house. These methods were rarely effective, and were always a large inconvenience. Fortunately, I came across the Twin Draft Guard, which efficiently keeps out all of the unwanted air during extreme weather conditions with much more ease and effectiveness than any other method I have ever attempted.

Sometimes infomercials will exaggerate the effectiveness of a product to help sell it, but the Twin Draft Guard has shown to pay for its self. I wouldn’t say that this is the solution that you have been looking for to saving your energy, but I have noticed a decrease by 8-10% of my household energy consumption.

Even saving 5$ a month means that the Twin Draft Guard will pay for its self in a few months. After that, you are just saving money, month after month. I would highly recommend the Twin Draft Guard to anyone, because it is a worthwhile investment. Be proactive in being energy efficient, and let the Twin Draft Guard be the first step.

If you are interested in saving money on your electricity bill, then invest in the Twin Draft Guard. I am very pleased with the performance of this product and I guarantee you that the Twin Draft Guard will satisfy you as well.

Easy Ways To Clean Your Blinds

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008
by Maria Castronuevo

There is one household chore that most of us dread, and that is cleaning our blinds. This chore can be very frustrating and time consuming, but it must be done because these home accessories seem to be dust magnets.

There are tips and hints that can make cleaning your blinds much easier and more pleasant, so that you do not put it off any longer.

Using your household vacuum cleaner is quick and easy especially if you have a brush attachment for it. The brush will stop the dust from flying everywhere and will capture the dirt immediately.

Who would have ever considered using socks? Put your hand in the sock as if it were a hand puppet and make sure it is wet, then, put the dry sock on your other hand. Wipe the blinds with the wet sock and dry the blinds with the dry sock. You will be done in no time at all.

Paintbrushes are not just for painting anymore. By using a clean, small brush it is very effective because the brush fits easily in between each slat and they can be cleaned with one swift hand motion.

By letting your blinds soak in the sink, it removes the hassle of standing at your window cleaning each slat separately. You must remove them from their window attachment and place them in hot soapy water with a dash of vinegar. Leave them in the sink for about half hour to an hour then rinse them off thoroughly and lay them to dry before putting them back up. If you have wood or cloth blinds, this method of cleaning is not suggested. Soaking your blinds is only good for aluminums or vinyl.

There are specific tools advertised that are intended for cleaning blinds, with fingers or other appendages that fit between the slats perfectly. Some of these devices work just as they were designed to, however some of these devices may be ineffective or hard to use, not to mention overpriced. The best way to make cleaning your blinds easy is to do this chore frequently, so that dust and dirt do not have a chance to build up and accumulate. This will ensure that your blinds stay clean and look great all the time.

For wood blinds use a soft cloth and wipe the slats with a spray. Pledge is an example of a spray that helps to eliminate dust and dirt while nourishing the wood too. This process leaves the wood shining and looking new and reduces the possibility of cracks at the same time. Whatever type of material your blinds are made of regular cleaning will keep them looking like brand new.

Cats and Ringworm

Monday, April 21st, 2008
by Mike Roberts

Ringworm, a very common form of skin disease, can affect both dogs and cats. Although its name implies otherwise, this skin disease isn’t caused by any type of worm at all.

Ringworm is actually caused by fungi known as Dermatophytes. This fungus feeds on dead tissues found in the surface of the skin, spreading them around the skin of the animal.

With cats, there is a certain type of fungi known as M Canis that is found with nearly 95% of all ringworm cases. Normally, cats will get the ringworm disease from contaminated objects like clippers, bedding, or another animal that already has the disease. The ringworm fungi also can be picked up from your yard. If there are animals in your home or around your house that have the ringworm disease, your cat could very easily contract it this way.

If you have kittens or cats that are under a year old in your home, you should always use precaution, as they are more susceptible to ringworm. Kittens can easily contract the disease, especially if you allow them to go outside. They can easily come in contact with a contaminated object or another cat that has the disease.

Young cats and kittens take time to build up their immune system and in the meantime are more apt to get a common disease such as ringworm.

Symptoms of ringworm in cats include broken hairs or hair loss around the head or the paws. It can easily be identified by a patch rough, scaly skin on the body that appears itchy, red and inflamed. The can be broken hairs around the patch of scaly skin as well. These areas can be very sensitive and you should never touch the area as it can pain to your animal.

If you notice any of the above symptoms with your pet, you should immediately schedule an appointment with your vet. If the vet diagnosis your cat with ringworm, he may prescribe ointment or tablets. What he describes however, will determine how serious the ringworm is.

If he prescribes tablets for your cat, you should give them with meals. Ointment on the other hand, is normally spread into the coat, topically. You should always use what your vet prescribes on a daily basis, to ensure that your cat heals properly. The healing process will take time, normally around six weeks or more.

Cats that have ringworm are very infectious. If you have children in the house, you should keep them away from your pet. Whenever you handle your cat, always use gloves. Ringworm is very contagious, and you should always use caution.

Even though it’s a mild disease, ringworm can still result in more serious problems due to the slow recovery time and fact that it’s contagious.
