Homeschoo History - The History of Home School

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008
by Kayley Kenzie

Home education, or homeschooling, is the teaching method instituted in the family home instead of a public, private or charter school. Initially, before there was any kind of public education, all schooling was done in the home.

Sometimes there were also small learning communities. Homeschool history is rich, because it was the first method of instruction.

It was usually the advantaged children who received any sort of education or had private tutors. Most of them came from rich families.

Way back when, being taught at home in an informal setting was the only way to get an education. Parents were usually the educators, but sometimes local teachers would help.

It is widely known that before we had public education, the United States experienced its peak literacy rate. It’s important to remember this point in homeschool history.

In the 1800s, education and schooling were starting to undergo a lot of important changes. One of the biggest changes was the introduction of laws that made school attendance mandatory. The government decreed that it is a human right for children to receive a public education.

Since that time there has been plenty of debate about the success of public schooling. Many people have gone so far as to say that the current education system is harming younger children, especially boys since they mature at a slower rate.

There have even been some studies done on the effects that formal education has on children between 8-12 years of age.

The research led to this conclusion: That formal schooling is damaging children in mental and physical ways. Some behavioral problems are a direct result of this negativity.

These studies were conducted in the 1970s, and according to these tests, tribal mothers in Africa with no literacy were able to bring up their children to be more emotionally and socially advanced than Western children.

Some think that the difference was due to the bond between parents and children. Obviously, the bond isn’t strengthened by formal education.

Parents bank on homeschool history when they pick and choose from a variety of curricula and teaching methods for educating their children. Schooling is done in a secure environment, but children are usually still mandated to pass required tests.

Parents who decide to teach their children at home usually do so because they want to give their children the best education.

Water Filters Are Essential Kitchen Appliances

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008
by Chris Hamilton

Water is vital to our wellbeing and without it we simply would not survive. The main component of our body is water with the liver being about 90% water and our brain about 74%. It is often stated that we do not drink enough water as the body needs around 64 fl oz or more to function correctly and much depends on how active we are. The water we drink should be free from organic matter found in many water supplies around the world. In most places all drinking water is drawn from it’s source and passed through a series of massive water filters before being pumped into the homes for our use.

As well as our bodies being mainly water the vast majority of the earth’s surface is covered in water. Of course much of it is salt seawater but there are also huge areas of fresh water. In some places, such as the Hebrides in Scotland, there is actually more water surface than ground surface. It is therefore very alarming that there are also large areas of land where water is at a premium. When water is found in such places it is usually of poor quality requiring the use of water filters and other technologies to ensure it’s safety before use.

In modern western societies there are often a great many rules and regulations governing the quality of the water supplies to residential homes. Such rules stipulate exactly what levels of certain substances should be considered safe. In many communities it is common to find trace elements of dangerous chemicals and even chemicals which have been added. In such places water filters are commonly used to remove all of these substances.

Aluminum is a poison, a well known and very dangerous poison. Although no causal relationship has been found between aluminum and Alzheimer’s disease there appears to be a growing amount of circumstantial evidence linking the two. Over the last decade or so there have been claims and counter claims on the causes of Alzheimer’s disease which often make reference to aluminum.

Fluoride is now added to a great many water supplies around the globe in the belief that it helps prevent tooth decay. However, because fluoride can be extremely dangerous, especially to babies and young children, a number have conspiracy theories have developed around the reasons why it is added to so many drinking water supplies. Many such theories seem extremely unlikely but the question is often raised when there is actually little evidence supporting the official reasons. Even toothpaste, which contains the substance, has been known to carry very specific health warnings to deter people from eating even the smallest amounts.

Water filters help remove fluoride, aluminum and other harmful chemicals from the water. The effects of this can be clearly seen with the naked eye by making one cup of tea using filtered water and another with unfiltered water. You will immediately notice a strong difference in the color of the two drinks. So striking is the difference it really makes you wonder how much chemical content is added to our water.

There are various types of water filter available for use in the home. The simplest and most affordable is the jug filter which usually filters through removable filter cartridges which need to be replaced regularly. Because these filters are capable of filtering huge amounts of water the cost is minimal when compared to bottled water. More expensive water filters, which treat all the water in the house, are available which will be fitted somewhere between your house and your connection to the main water supply and other, smaller systems, are installed under the sink to provide an extra, drinking water only, tap.

Of course there are many advantages to using a water filter and we have only listed two of the great many chemicals which these amazing gadgets can remove. One of the most enjoyable aspects of using a water filter is the fact that you will immediately notice how much better the water tastes, not only on it’s own but even in hot drinks. You will eventually become used to the lovely new flavor but whenever you taste unfiltered water again you will be horrified at how disgusting it is and you will wonder why you ever drank it in the first place.

Their is so much information and trust you need to know and have before you commit to a moving company from either NYC, Dallas, or Atlanta. To ensure the safe and timely delivery of your personal items you must develop patience and move ahead at your own speed, and you will find your place and maybe discover a whole new lifestyle.

You’re prepared to move to your new home with all your kids packed too.. Don’t forget to inform your close neighbor, friends and relatives. Give them your new address & name of landmark. After all you have spent some time with them and have different type of attachments with the people. Its natural to feel home sick.

Moving in the summer is peak season for movers as well as the first day of the month as well as the last days of the month. Prices are generally higher and you need to commit to a few weeks in advance to ensure that a moving company has availability. Once you do remember that its harder to start looking through boxes for something that you desperately need so have each family member pack their own personal travel kit. You should start with First Aid box, Scissors and knife, Power cords and batteries,

Before the moving company agent arrives at your home you should inspect the contents of your house from basement all the way up to the attic. Don’t forget about the shed if and garage if you have them and have items stored their. Have a yard sale to get rid of extra things you don’t need.

Being specific about when your items will be arriving at your new location will help with the immediate unpacking process. Being familiar with new location first you have to be a part of it. Give your kids good judgment advise by giving your kids permission to arrange their room to their likings. Encourage your kids to invite over a neighbor for playing and help with putting their room together.

Do you know that it has been said time and time again that moving is rated as the third most highly pressured experience you could ever go through next to being incarcerated or getting married. With so many decisions that have to be made so quickly its really a wonder how people cope.

I know for me and I’m sure you have heard them too, so many stories from friends and family members and their experiences with movers and how unsuspecting you can be to some details you probably would never consider.
