Owning A Double Wide Trailer

Thursday, March 13th, 2008
by Big T’O

Have you ever wonder about how we rank everything on a continuum?

We seem to love to compare things and then judge the worth of each thing and place it on a scale of which is best.

This starts with individuals opinions and then as more people agree the rankings become a general consensus.

We do this with everything from what brand of peanut butter we prefer to which hotel we are going to stay in. We also do this with housing choices.

When most people are starting out in their career they cannot afford to own their home. They begin with renting. For people in rural areas many time rentals will include a trailer home, or even a mobile home.

When people have enough money to purchase land but not yet enough to build a home, alternatives that are consider are double wide trailers.

The improvements that have been made on them are great.

Double wide trailers provide a great alternative for the person that does not have the money or the time to create a home from the ground up.

The construction process of the double wide trailers has greatly improved.

In the past double wide trailers used to look like the regular trailer houses only wider. Today it is not easy to be able to tell them apart from stick built homes. There are many models that you can choose from.

Some look like ramblers, others are like two stories with dormers. If you have the time you can probably have one custom built regarding the lay out of the rooms. In most models that are new you pick out the flooring, wall colors, cabinets, bathroom fixtures, and trim just as you would in any other home built.

Many of the fifty-five and older communities in popular retirement areas are featuring the double wide trailer as the potential home for the future.

They can be placed on a basement foundation or on a slab; they can have decks attached, as well as garages built on to them.

Because of their sound construction they tend to be quite economical to the heat and cool. Many resorts and golf courses are using them as their rental properties currently.

The price is lower because several of the homes can be worked on at the same time. This help cut down on the labor cost.

Due to better construction materials and labor they are a sound alternative for housing.

Wireless Security System Overview

Many Hollywood films show the burglar or villain having a rather easy time of breaking into a home. They simply snip the wires leading to the home alarm system, and voila, instant entry. One of the answers to this problem is to have a system without wires — a wireless security system.

A wireless home security system is a burglar alarm that does not use wires to transmit messages; instead it uses radio waves to communicate. This leaves the burglar or the intruder clueless, unable to know which wires to cut to deactivate the alarm.

There are two basic types of wireless burglar alarms available today. The first kind is activated by an intruder, but the alarm is only audible to the homeowner and nearby neighbors. These systems are less useful if you live in a rural area, and are not home when the break-in takes place. The second kind of wireless security system includes a monitor that will detect a forced entry, and then communicate that fact to a security company. The company staff will confirm whether it is a genuine break-in, and if so, will immediately call the local police.

The control panel is the brains of all wireless security systems. It is usually found in the basement or in a closet. The control panel is where all wireless signals are sent from the various motion sensors and magnetic switches placed throughout the home. If a suspicious movement signal or entry is detected, the control panel sounds an alarm, or phones the security company’s monitoring service.

Small, inconspicuous magnetic contacts are attached to windows and doors. They include two parts, a magnet that is placed on the window or door, and a switch that is placed inside the door jam or window sill. They work very simply: if the distance between the switch and the magnet increases, which would happen if the door or window were forced open, a signal is sent to the control panel, which sounds the alarm.

Large hallways are sometimes equipped with body sensors as part of a wireless security system package. These devices use passive infrared motion detection methods to sense motion or body heat. If motion is detected, a signal is sent to the control panel. At that time the panel will analyze the level of threat, and then decide whether to alert the central monitoring station.

Each wireless security system includes a keypad, which homeowners use to turn the system on or off. Normally, keypads are installed beside the main entry door, so that it is convenient to arm the alarm when leaving, or to deactivate it when returning home. Some systems also include remote devices, similar to a car alarm, which can operate several features. Homeowners can also switch lights on or off from a distance using the remote controller, to give the illusion that the home is occupied.

Some wireless security systems also come with cameras, which can be all mounted or hidden. The cameras connect to a control panel and a recording device, such as a VCR. If an intruder is detected, the cameras record the home scene automatically. Some packages also include camera monitoring by security staff at the alarm system company.

There is no doubt that any home security system can offer a certain degree of protection for your property, or even your life. However, for the highest level of protection, a wireless security system is your best choice.

Foster Care: Holding the Hand of a Child Available for Adoption

Being a foster parent is a pretty daunting task. In fact, foster parents often have to be superheroes: Many foster children may come from abusive environments, and being thrust into an entirely new household, away from their families is both stressful and unnerving. Becoming emotionally attached is one temptation for foster parents who are there simply to make a child available for adoption or return to his or her birth parent/s.

Foster care is usually a collaboration between the foster care agencies and adoption agencies who makes sure that the child is well-taken cared of. Keeping the best interests of the child and working to making a child available for adoption into a loving, caring and permanent home is the ultimate goal of foster care.

Foster parents play an important role by maintaining communication lines with adoption agencies who are screening potential adoptive parents. By working closely with them, foster parents may keep the agency updated on the emotional wellbeing of a child available for adoption.

In foster care, adoption agencies play two roles. First, they the state-authorized entity granted custody and care for any specific child available for adoption. Secondly, prior to adoption, they are responsible for keeping the child in a safe and loving environment, while they evaluate potential adoptive parents, and whether that family is capable of taking care of the child’s needs. Adoption agencies and foster parents work hand in hand so that not one child may feel the pangs of neglect and emotional distance that their circumstances have left them with.

Before being adopted, a child available for adoption is often placed in the care of the state child welfare system, before being adopted. Sometimes, the court assign public or private adoption agencies with the challenge of making a child available for adoption into permanent and caring homes. More often than not, foster children are products of broken homes or abusive family environments. The courts strip parents of their parental and legal rights, either for abusive home environments, neglect, or even sexual abuse.

The kids are then taken into custody by adoption agencies. While the agencies select permanent homes for these children, they are cared for in foster homes. During introductions, foster parents are made aware of what the child has undergone. Overcoming a child’s instinct to withdraw from his or her environment is the biggest challenge for any foster parent. And this is crucial for a child available for adoption. Foster homes often begin working with children by helping them with their problems and easing them out of their shells and helping them to become more comfortable forming bonds with the rest of the foster family.

Turning the child over to the care of adoptive parents is perhaps the most difficult part in most foster parents. Many foster parents have stories of the emotional goodbyes, especially when a foster child has become attached to them and does not want to leave them. But all foster parents know that that there is the reward for all their hard work: Being able to teach love to a young child and receiving the same kind of affection in return.

To find the right child available for adoption, check with your local adoption agency and inquire about the requirements for foster parenting. It is emotional, educational and rewarding experience; to make a child available for adoption by simply showing him or her that someone cares for them even in their most darkest times.

How To Improve Your Finished Basement Design

Thursday, March 13th, 2008
by Casey Torren

There can be many uses for your basement. With proper planning, you can remodel it into something worth your time and money. Nowadays, a finished basement design has become a very popular investment. How to improve it is easy, manageable and relatively affordable too. In fact, with a little creativity and knowledge in art or interior design, you can turn your basement into the most beautiful and favorite hangout place in your home.

Be creative. Here are some of the things you can make out of your unattended basement.

- Your home office. Supposing you have a small business run at home and you need an office. The basement can be the perfect place to set this plan up. Assuming that you have a finished basement design already. All you need to do is furnish it. Add office furniture and all other office supplies, equipment, and useful stuff like lamps, book shelf, etc. Don’t forget to install a phone and a fax machine.

- As a Small Gym - A treadmill doesn’t require a huge space. So does any set of weights. You can always put it in a corner in your basement. A good place would be near the window if you like to work out with the cool breeze of fresh air. That way you’ll also have the feel of a semi-outdoor while doing your regular exercise.

- Children’s Playroom - There are really no furnishings needed on this one. Although you might need a removable rubber carpet on the floor to go with your finished basement design. Kids can be messy and unpredictable. Accidents can happen. A rubber mat should keep them comfortable in their place. And for extra safety precaution, consider setting up a railing around them.

- Home Entertainment Room - Take advantage of the lack of lighting and convert it into a new facility. Some homes use the dark corners in their basement as a mini theatre. Others would use it as a dark room. Not only is your finished basement design space optimized, it has brought a new experience too.

- Your Basement Bar - Converting your finished basement design into a bar is a cool idea too. That would take away your problems in where you want to hold mini parties with your friends on weekends. But remember to have proper ventilation or a room temperature balance because it can get warm and sweaty when it’s crowded.

- Guest room - If you have a big family and have used up all the rooms for your kids, why not use the basement as another bedroom. You can have your guests use it. You in-laws perhaps if they come over to visit the kids.

- Your Own Music Studio - Your finished basement design is probably the most well insulated place in your house in terms of acoustics. If you have a teenager who loves to play in a band, you might want to explore this option. A music studio can be cheaper and only needs good sound insulation.

There may still be more but these are just the common things done for a basement. If your basement is spacious, you can accommodate all of the above mentioned. It’s really up to you. A very good finished basement design should be flexible in terms of use. Just make sure it’s still cozy and can make your friends or guests feel welcome. This little den in your home can go a long way.
