Healthy Dog Foods For Beagles

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008
by Richard Cussons

There are many ways to keep your Beagles healthy. Feeding them with nutritionally balanced food is one way of keeping them healthy as well as happy. So what are these nutritious foods? How am I going to make sure that my dog gets the required foods essential for his health.

There are many issues regarding commercial dog foods, homemade dog foods and natural dog foods. The use of commercial dog food is very common to most dog owners nowadays. It is for the simple reason that it is readily available in most grocery and pet supply stores. All you have to do is buy a pack or two from your favorite pet supply store, open the package and pour the contents in your dog’s food dish. Easy isn’t it? Feeding your Beagles isn’t that hard after all.

But then despite the convenience this type of food offers, you can not guarantee that your dog gets the essential nutrients his body needed. Some brands of commercial dog foods are recalled because it was found out that they contain preservatives. Dog food manufacturers claim that their products are preservative-free. But actually, almost all commercial dog food in the market contains ethoxyquin. A powerful and toxic chemical that can cause kidney and liver damage, hair loss, blindness, leukemia, cancerous skin lesions, fetal abnormalities and chronic diarrhea. The claim on preservative-free dog food is therefore one of the manufacturer’s advertising strategies to increase sales and profit.

Many dog owners are now switching to natural homemade foods because you can guarantee that this type of food is guaranteed safe and healthy. However, preparation of this type of food worries most dog owners. They think that preparing this food takes a lot of time and effort. Better seek your vet’s help for advice on how to prepare your dog’s food easily and correctly.

Your dog’s main happiness is your attention, your praise and your love. Show him your love by ensuring his over-all health condition. But if in case you really need to use commercial dog food, be careful in selecting which one to give your dog. Thorough reading and understanding of product labels will help. Then, learn how to make healthy dog food. Make sure it contains 40% protein, 30% starch and 30% fiber.

Give your Beagles the right kind of food and expect him to live healthier, longer and happier.

Ceilings - Raising Ceiling Height Cost

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008
by Bianca Beluna

When building a new home or upgrading your existing home, there are many upgrades available to customize the home to your particular tastes. From the type of flooring to the lights in the ceiling, there are thousands of options available to make your new home uniquely yours. One area often overlooked during the process of selecting finishes or planning for fixtures is the ceiling. Keeping the following available options in mind when planning your new home can set it apart from the crowd.

Cathedral Ceilings - A cathedral ceiling is a ceiling that has a center point higher than the walls. This is the most common type of upgrade to ceiling structure and goes a long way to increasing the overall perception of room size.

Final Finish - The final finish can make a big difference in the look of your home and is something a do it yourselfer can change in an existing home. Removing an old acoustic ceiling or spraying a modern texture such as knock-down in its place, or in the place of having a flat finish might be just the upgrade you are looking for in your home.

These are not your only options available, but hopefully they have served as a reminder that when building your new home there is more to planning out your ceilings than selecting “white” or “off-white” for your paint color.

The quarter circle curve is usually accented with crown molding where it meets the wall providing a uniquely Victorian look. This look is best when the ceiling has a minimum height of 10 feet to provide a large enough radius for the transition from ceiling to wall. Cove Ceilings - Often found in home from the early 1900’s these types of ceilings while providing a classic and luxurious look are not nearly as difficult to create as would first appear.

Coffered Ceilings - One of my favorites, coffered ceilings comes in numerous styles and finishes from rich hard woods to simple painted drywall surfaces. The box like structure can be very expensive based upon the type of finish selected. Homebuilders have recently begun to use a variation of coffered ceilings in some areas of the home to highlight light fixtures in areas such as the dining room. If your home has the ceiling height to work with there are do it yourself kits available that are relatively easy to install. A handy person could build out a coffered looking ceiling using ordinary lumber and sheetrock with spectacular end results that can still get that ‘wow’ from someone entering the room.

Small Female Tattoo Designs: Little Space, Big Ideas

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008
by Tim Croy

One primary characteristic of the female gender is that women’s bodies are smaller than men’s. If you have decided to get a tattoo, this consideration can be both beneficial and potentially problematic. Remember this factor when searching for small female tattoo designs.

One popular place that many women choose to get their tattoo is on their lower back. This decision makes sense, because it gives them a degree of freedom they might not have if they picked other places. For example, on the back, you can choose a tattoo that is as small or as big as you want.

Remember, however, that you may frequently find yourself in a situation that does not allow you to display your tattoo prominently. Perhaps your business does not permit visible tattoos, or maybe a grandmother would really be upset by seeing it. Women choose small female tattoos for many reasons.

Just because the design is small, however, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have a significant impact. The location of the tattoo is the key to the response you will get. Choosing your lower back can attract many eyes to this flattering, curvy aspect of your body. Even a tiny design, such as a flower or a complex knot, can be attractive.

Another place that is particularly attractive is the ankle, because men will notice it and then continue gazing all the way up the rest of a woman’s figure. Sometimes, women even elect to have tattoos designed as permanent anklets. This allows them to enjoy the benefit of wearing sexy jewelry without having to buy or care for expensive accessories. In addition, many ladies perceive these tattoos as more feminine because they are less striking and more subtle.

One key factor in considering a small design is that of color. While color can be expensive, a relatively small design will allow you to spend more on color and shading, which will also help to make your tattoo uniquely yours, and without costing you a fortune.

Tattoos can be painful. This is one very logical reason to choose a smaller tattoo. Women can get a design that expresses individuality without spending all night at a tattoo parlor and feeling the pain for several more weeks.

People choose small female tattoo designs for a variety of reasons. Be aware, though, that smaller tattoos aren’t necessarily equivalent with compromise - small doesn’t have to me generic. Just because you are smaller doesn’t mean your body has to look boring!

Janitorial Greenwash Fraud

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008
by Michael Richmond

The focus for “Going Green” is almost all about products, and the product providers has been more than anxious to celebrate the new opportunities to capture this new market. The feeding frenzy will continue for a while yet, but what happens when nearly every janitorial firm has added some Green products to their carts? The equalization factor kicks in, and nearly every janitorial firm will claim to be Green by self-acclamation, but has anything really changed?

Going Green is not found in a bottle of reformulated cleanser, but in the practices of the janitorial workforce that are frankly the last and lagging piece of this puzzle. Can you buy a great set of tools and immediately become a great mechanic? Can you buy a set of golf clubs and enter the Masters Tournament? Can a lady buy a size two dress and fit her size ten body into it? What this illustrates is that buying an item does not make you something that you are not.

The Green program means that the workforce needs a working knowledge of Green practices along with the new supply of Green products. The fact is that the workers in a janitorial service as far more important than the choice of products. There are dozens of new procedures that are required for a Green janitorial service that include “Dwell Time,” microfiber use, and how to handle dusting an office.

In fact, there are hundreds of changes in a Green janitorial firm that are just as important as buying the latest Green product. Going Green is not passed automatically to the staff or by clandestine training. This is why most Green janitorial services are unintentional frauds that pursue profits above full Green conversion. This means that the Green status of little more than a Green facade that is proclaimed for the benefit of others rather than a full integration of a Green practice.

The Green Clean Institute is the only program designed to train and certify a janitorial service in Green practices and the assist a janitorial service implement a Green program. This is a federal trademark that offers more than good intentions. The janitorial industry is in transition from a “task-oriented” service to a “service-oriented” program that requires a solid basis of working knowledge. This is the time to step up to a higher set of standards, new mandates, and duties that impact the safety, health, and future of all those working in our schools and offices.

The word custodian has renewed meaning as we realize that we are expecting these often-ignored group to handle the challenges of our day and render services at a higher level than ever before. There is a charge to keep, a duty to render, and a lot at stake for any janitorial service in this new and Green age. Green janitor fraudsters are going to eventually hit the wall as questions of reliable performance are asked and evaluations become more common.

I advise you not to simply stick you toe into the Green Clean program. It is he smart choice to realize that a Green program is a long term commitment to a new process. We are not talking about saving the whales, trading your car for a bicycle, or turning vegetarian. It is obvious that the Green movement is a permanent direction that places more emphasis on the health of the workers than the shine of the floor. Understand that a Green program has three important parts: Green Agenda by decision makers, Green Products, and Green Practices by the workforce. Isn’t it time to truly “Go Green” rather than fake it?

Red Roses History And Significance

Monday, February 18th, 2008
by Elizabeth Crosthon

Roses have a history that’s 35 million years old. Today over 150 species of roses are cultivated on all continents but one. The most famous of all these roses is the red rose. Nothing can display love and affection better than 12 fresh red roses.

People began growing roses for pleasure more than 5,000 years ago. In addition to their beauty, rose petals were thrown like confetti at parties and parades, and rose oil was used for both its intoxicating scent and as a natural medicine.

While the repressed and extremely formal Victorians used flower types and colors to express sentiments not considered proper to speak, the practice of red roses being linked to love extends to ancient Rome. That culture of elegance and style often used symbolic means of expression including flowers, but the complex system of hidden meanings really became prominent with the Victorians. In that time, many different flowers other than roses began to be included.

It is not only the color of red roses that carry significant meaning; you can send a different message depending on how open or closed the flower blooms are. By presenting a bouquet of roses that are unopened, you are offering a symbol of youth and innocence. If the bouquet of a dozen red roses is made up of fully opened roses, the love is in full bloom-befitting for an anniversary celebration.

Just as the form of the bloom carries importance, so does the number of roses given. A single rose bud communicates simplicity, which is why it is a favorite among new, young romantics. A full bouquet of a dozen fresh red roses says, “I love you still.”

Pink roses, too, carry important messages. Each shade of pink has a different meaning: Dark pink roses represent appreciation and respect, while the lighter shades show sympathetic feelings. Incorporating a mix of both red and pink rosebuds means that you find the recipient very beautiful and vibrant.

The value of a dozen fresh red roses has grown drastically over the years due to the great care and work that it takes gardeners to cultivate them. But, the ease of choosing flower delivery via the phone or Internet has made the once difficult process of sending loved ones a message of love easier than ever.

Things To Remember With Bathroom Remodeling Designs

Monday, February 18th, 2008
by Ann Triune

Are you thinking of bathroom remodeling designs? Maybe it’s about time that you do. There may be a need to change the size and look of your bathroom. Remodeling is the only solution. There are however, some important points to remember when you decide to remodel. Keep these in mind to ensure a successful bathroom project.

Budget Comes First

It goes without saying that any design will not work without a budget. Your finances should therefore be the first thing that you should pay attention to. What you can afford can have a big impact on the final look and design of your bathroom. Your budget will help determine the kind of tiles, fixtures and layout you can use. It will also determine which service providers you can afford to get.

Designs Can be Studied

Some people have clear ideas about what they want. Many of us however, need some inspiration to understand what is really personally desirable. This is crucial because you would need your own bathroom design concept first so the experts can build it for you. Make your desires specific by looking at various bathroom designs. There are so many of them in magazines and online sites. While you are studying the designs, you will also get an idea about which material types you prefer. You will find out for example that tiles aren’t just ceramic. They can also be marble or vinyl. Bath tubs and showers also come in a variety of designs.

The Opinion of Professionals Matter

Bathroom remodeling designs should start with you. This doesn’t mean though that everything you want can be done. Experts can tell you if your plans will work out or not. They can also tell you whether you are overshooting your budget or not. This is why it pays to consult an expert first. If you have some design and remodeling experience, you could hire individual designers, carpenters and plumbers to consult and work with. It would be a better idea though to get a contractor if you know nothing about remodeling. You can pay a contractor a fee first just for consultation before pushing through with a project.

Your Choice of Experts Matters

You can’t just randomly pick a contractor from a list. A bad contractor can ruin the best and most appropriate designs. A good contractor on the other hand can make even the simplest designs true works of art. You should therefore always conduct a thorough background check on your contractor before pushing through with your project.

Better Assemble Everything You Need

Before the remodeling date begins, make sure everything is ready. The on site availability of your materials and tools can help get the job done faster. Ask your contractor for a close estimate of how many tiles you need and how big your fixtures should be. Buy what you need days before your contractor starts work. Buying only while the work is in progress can put you in a snag. Some materials might go out of stock or prices could increase and affect your budget.

These are just the basic considerations for bathroom remodeling designs. Take note of these basic reminders so you can make your bathroom dreams a reality.

Best Home Security - How To Decide

Monday, February 18th, 2008
by Jess Delice

When you have a security system that offers reliable service, makes you feel at ease, and has dependable components, you know you have the best home security system. A good system is usually hardwired to prevent interference, something that frequently occurs in wireless systems.

It will be loaded with lots of different features: Motion detectors, sensors for the doors, sensors for the windows, sensors for the garage door, possible some cameras and monitors, a keypad installed on each floor, extra locks along with the normal deadbolt… the list goes on.

Of course, for the best in home security, you’re going to want reliable monitoring. The big companies like ADT and Brinks are your best bets for this.

Since these two companies are gigantic, they can afford to give you service 24/7. An actual person will respond each time your alarm goes off.

Be sure to sign up for a service that won’t penalize you for a false alarm. Nobody’s perfect. Accidents happen!

You also need to be sure that the system is all set to dial them from a local number. If the system dials a 1-800 number, you could get charged for each call.

Go to your friends and family to find out if they’ve had good experience with a security system; that’s a great way to find the best home security system for yourself. Anyone who’s dealt with this can be a big help when you do your research.

When you meet with the salespeople for the security companies, ask lots of questions. Pay attention to their recommendations, but remember that they are salespeople who want you to buy a lot, and some of them will use scare tactics and high pressure sales techniques.

You should not sign a contract right away. Instead, you should review different quotes and READ THE CONTRACTS before deciding. You may find lots of surprises buried in the fine print. Don’t ever sign a contract you don’t fully understand.

The best security companies will offer you a lot of options. You will be able to choose from additional upgrades, but you should be able to walk away with the basic package without feeling guilty.

If you take the time to do your homework, you’ll be able to buy the best home security system available without breaking your bank account.

Fun Woodworking Ideas For The Beginner

Sunday, February 17th, 2008
by Ann Triune

What’s great about woodworking is that there are so many woodworking ideas you can try. It’s fun, challenging and rewarding. Below are some ideas you can try yourself!

Carving Ideas

Woodcarving is about a lot of things besides wooden toys and other objects. You can carve out graceful and complex designs on almost any surface or object. Start off by learning basic motifs and patterns. Once you’re done you can use these in your other plans. For instance, you can apply them to jewelry boxes and furniture for more interest.

Be inspired by what’s around you. Capture photos of plants, animals and even motifs from other furniture and the walls of buildings. Next, gather all these pictures as clip files. Categorize them according to topics for easy browsing in the future. With photographs, creating true to life objects and animals become a breeze.

Remember to also illustrate your woodworking ideas in a sketchpad. Making this a habit means you’ll never forget the good ideas you have. All you have to do is crudely illustrate any idea that comes to mind. You can then make sense out of your varying ideas by gathering them for one particular plan.

If you want more technical information get a book on carving designs. Books provide you with a platform for practice on basic and traditional designs including Celtic, American Indian and Art Deco. You may also find free designs on the Internet.

Wood Finish Ideas

How about making your furniture look antique? You can make any piece of woodwork look exquisite with an antique finish. Try out this type of finish on any inexpensive, plain furniture and your guests will never know!

First, apply stain on the wood. Choose a color that looks more antique, like earthy colors. Secondly, use fine sandpaper over the stain to imitate the wear and tear of antique surfaces. You can refer to an antique piece to see where the tears are located.

For an additional effect, you can make some scrapings with a file or chisel. Be cautious though and avoid making them too prominent. Scrape evenly throughout the surface so that your furniture will look antique, not broken!

Inlay Ideas

You can actually create images with wood by using wood inlay. Intarsia is a kind of inlay that gives any surface an illusion of depth. Intarsia is practically fitting together wooden parts of different color, shapes and grain so that an image emerges.

First, look up an image for you to imitate. There are numerous intarsia templates on the World Wide Web. Because intarsia is like a puzzle, the wooden pieces need to be cut accurately. A template can help you do this.

There are many free instructions online for both beginners and experts. Basically, you can stick your paper template on wood and cut out the lines. The surface should be depressed with about the same height of your pieces before inserting the pieces themselves.

For a more prominent image, experiment with the natural color and grain of wood. Play around with dimensions by varying the thickness of your wooden pieces. Intarsia can be applied on cabinet doors, picture frames and boxes. There is no limit to creativity.

Painting Ideas

You can add your personal touch to any furniture you make. Why not paint on some of your own patterns? You can paint on traditional floral or geometric designs. You don’t have to be an expert at painting. You can always use stencils, which you can buy at any crafts shop.

Woodworking ideas can be found just about anywhere. Check the World Wide Web for new plans. Seek more challenge by investigating a wide range of other processes.

Looking Beyond Water Heater Prices When Making A Buying Decision

Sunday, February 17th, 2008
by Ann Triune

Comparing water heater prices is one of the most important things you do before taking the plunge in buying a new water heater. Nowadays, there are water heaters available that are cheap and inexpensive. However, when choosing a water heater, you mustn’t limit yourself to price. You have to consider quality and efficiency. Just by choosing the right water heater, you can actually cut back on a lot of money in the long run.

What is the first step in buying a water heater?

The first thing you should do is identify what type of water heater you want to buy. Water heaters are either electric or gas-fueled. A small percentage of water heaters also use kerosene, propane and oil. There are also some that use wood heat or solar panels to heat water.

What type of water heater is more affordable?

If you compare water heater prices of the major types of water heaters (electric and gas-fueled), you will find out that electric water heaters are less costly. Gas-fueled water heaters tend to be more expensive and can cost you about $50-$100 more than the electric water heater.

Does this mean I should get an electric water heater?

Yes, just by looking at that, you might as well be investing into electric water heaters. However, if you look beyond the price tag and see the investment you’ll be making in the long run, you would be reconsidering your decision.

What does that mean?

For every million Btus of heat produced, the average dollar cost of natural gas was found to be at $15.13 while electricity was found to be at $27.26. This is according to the 2005 data provided by the Department of Energy. This shows natural gas is the cheapest and most convenient fuel used for water heaters.

So even if gas-fueled water heaters cost more than an electric water, just think about how much you can actually save in the long run by using natural gas fuel.

What can I do if I still want an electric water heater?

If you opt for buying an electric water heater but you’re still tempted by the economical advantages of using a gas-fueled water heater, you can have your water heater converted. You can remove the electric heating element in your water heater and turn it into a storage tank. You can then mount a gas-fired heating unit and attach it to your existing water tank using two inch water lines. You can be experiencing up to three times the heating capacity of a regular electric water heater with this type of water heating system.

As a whole, before taking the plunge in buying a new water heater, look beyond water heater prices. Find out what type of water heater is fit for your needs and budget. Although there are several water heaters that are inexpensive, always keep in mind that quality, efficiency, and energy consumption rate are equally important factors to consider too.
