Pamper Your Pooch With A Kennel Shade Cover

Monday, December 24th, 2007
by Shea Gyngell

Summertime, and the living’s easy. For those of us in air-conditioned comfort, maybe. But for all of those dogs that are suffering in kennels without adequate shade, life in the summertime is anything but easy.

Pet owners have an obligation to provide the highest quality of life for their dogs. This includes time spent inside, and outside, the home. If your dog spends his or her time in an outdoor kennel, you must use a kennel cover to provide shade from the hot sun.

It’s easy to find and install a dog kennel shade cover, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. You can find a basic dog kennel shade cover to provide the degree of protection your pet needs, at a price you can afford.

Every kennel on your property must have a shade cover. These shades not only protect your pets and help to keep them cool in the hotter months, but they also provide shelter when the weather turns bad. Severe or extended periods of rain and snow can be very harmful to animals, so finding the right dog kennel shade cover is essential to ensuring your pet remains healthy, whatever the weather.

Only the Best for Your Best Friend

Some pet owners ask, “Why buy a shade cover, when I can throw a tarp over the dog kennel?” Of course, this is not the best method of protecting your pet. A tarp might keep the sun out, but the material cannot withstand everything nature has to offer. Over time, tarps will break down and tear, allowing the driving rain and snow to harm your pet. Tarps cannot deflect the sunlight, and may even cause an increase in the temperature of the kennel area.

Instead of using a plain tarp, spend a few extra bucks to invest in a proper dog kennel shade cover. These covers are slanted at an angle, and then simply secured to your structure. The slanting of the cover ensures that all rainwater, snow and melting ice will fall directly to the ground rather than pooling on top. This prevents the risk of collapse or flood.

Keep a Tight Leash on Your Cover

Once you’ve installed the kennel shade cover, double-check that it’s properly installed and securely tightened before putting your pet in the kennel. If the cover blows off during high winds, your dog will be exposed to the elements and prone to injury from heavy rain, sleet or snow.

One Size Does Not Fit All

You can find dog kennel shade covers in a variety of sizes, and most can be added to any existing kennels already set up in your yard. Take accurate measurements of your kennel and purchase a cover that fits properly. Don’t go to the time and trouble of installing a cover that’s too large or too small. If you haven’t built a kennel yet, look for a complete setup that includes the cover in the kennel package. Otherwise, you’ll pay extra for the cover later on.

When it’s raining cats and dogs, your pet needs a place where he or she can be warm and comfortable. Above all, your pet needs to be safe. The money and time spent installing a dog kennel shade cover is certainly worthwhile. After all, nothing is too good for your best friend.

Creating Unique Gifts Using Cross Stitch Wedding Patterns

Monday, December 24th, 2007
by Julia Wigham

After many years of marriage we still look back fondly at a special gift that was lovingly hand stitched for us by my sister. She must have looked through many cross stitch wedding patterns to find the one that was just right. If you have a family wedding drawing close you may like to think of creating an heirloom to help the new bride and groom remember their special day.

What better gift to give than a personalised sampler. There are many cross stitch wedding patterns available that use the sampler theme. Most include a full alphabet allowing you to personalise your work with the happy couple’s names and the date of the wedding. An attractive border and a romantic quote may complete the design.

People of all religions get married but if you are not Christian it might take a little more searching to find suitable cross stitch patterns to include in your sampler. Different cultures have different traditions, which may be worth researching, if the couple tying the knot are of a different denomination to you. For example two glasses of wine are used during the Jewish wedding ceremony and these could be depicted in the stitched piece.

Many companies offer cross stitch kits with a marriage theme. Janlynn and Bucilla produce these patterns and Bucilla also cross brands some of their patterns and kits with Mary Engelbreit. Dimensions has a wide variety of cross stitch wedding patterns. Dimensions has over 20 different patterns in this theme and most of them are sold as a kit that includes the mat, threads needed and, of course, instructions for completion.

There are two books by Leisure Arts that have wedding patterns to cross stitch. Each only has one or two wedding patterns mixed in with several other types of patterns. They are “The Best of Paula Vaughan” with a pattern titled Wedding Ring Bouquet and “The Best of Teresa Wentzler: Sampler Collection”. McCall’s published a book with several wedding samplers called “Better Homes & Garden’s Country Cross Stitch”.

Before you started your stitching you should have decided how you wanted to present the finished piece. Ideas include a ring pillow, a decorated album cover, a handkerchief for the bride or a framed picture.

Whether it’s a sampler, a picture frame or many of the other items cross stitch wedding patterns are an ideal way to add your unique touch to any wedding celebration and will provide a lasting memory for the new family.

If you’re the proud new owner of a puppy, the excitement you are feeling is incredible. You imagine all of the good times you’re going to have with your new pet. Then reality strikes and you realize that your new best friend is really messing up your home because it’s not potty trained yet. As much as you wish your new puppy would obey your commands, you quickly realize that you don’t actually know how to potty train a puppy.

If you’d like to live in a clean house then potty training your puppy is vital. Depending on the breed, this training may be easier or harder. Unfortunately, the learning curve for all breeds is not the same. If you haven’t purchased a puppy yet, you may want to keep this in mind and find out more information about the breed you are looking at purchasing.

In potty training a puppy, you must have immense patience. Because the puppy is so young, it really has very little control of when it has to do its business. If you keep finding messes around your house, it can definitely lead to frustration. So just this realization that the animal is young, and the fact that they just cannot hold it, should make you a little more clam when these accidents occur.

The best time to potty train a puppy is right after it has eaten. This will provide a routine for the puppy to follow. Also, try to take the puppy out first thing in the morning and before you go to bed. This too, will develop a routine for the puppy to follow.

Another great idea when potty training a puppy is to use treats or affection and excitement. After your puppy has successfully gone potty where and when you wanted them to, give them a treat or praise. Pretty soon it will understand that this was a good thing and will keep wanting a treat or wanting to please you by doing the right thing.

Dry dog food is recommended for feeding your puppy. When you go to feed it, make sure you do so at the same time. This way it will go potty at the same time each day and night. If you’re not on a set schedule, there’s no way your puppy is going to develop a routine. This is very important when you’re potty training a puppy.

Young puppies need a lot of water. Make sure it has it’s water container filled at all times but take it away about 2 hours before bed time. This way it won’t need to be taken out in the middle of the night.

Lastly, try to keep the puppies area clean at all times. A dirty area may discourage your puppy not allowing it get used to the area. You don’t want to give it any excuses.

Those are a few tips to help potty train your puppy. Hopefully, you have found them useful. If you can just remember to be a little patient potty training will be a thing of the past.

Your Contract With A Contractor

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007
by Alastair Lydeard

We all dream of creating a perfect castle from our homes. If you are ready to take the plunge and hire a contractor, there are a few things that you should know before the hammer starts swinging. A clear-cut contract is your first step to creating your dream home.

It seems that everyone is thinking about home improvements. Some jobs are relatively small, like a little landscaping or a new kitchen floor. Others, like swimming pool installations, are more extravagant. Large or small, if your job requires the services of a hired professional, then you need to have a home improvement contract.

What do you need to know before signing the dotted line?

Shop Around

Don’t be too quick to sign a contract with the first home improvement professional you meet. Speak with people you know and trust, and ask for referrals. Compile a list of contractor names along with their professional license numbers. This information is essential for performing background checks through services like the Better Business Bureau and local state or provincial Consumer Affairs’ business licensing divisions.

Search names and numbers, and follow up on any complaints that may have been issued against the contractors. Be as thorough as you would while checking references for a new employee.

Treat Terms with Care

You’ve done all of your background checks and chosen your contractor. Now, it’s time to negotiate and sign your home improvement contract. There is a list of concise information that you should look for in your written home improvement contract.

First of all, look for the full information of the building contractor or company, including the professional license number. Make sure that your home improvement contract includes every detail of the project, including start and completion dates. All financial details like material costs, labor fees and payment arrangements must also be clearly disclosed.

A “right to cancel” clause is an important point to look for in your contract. This gives you the opportunity to change your mind about the contract after you’ve signed it. You should have no less than three days’ grace, during which time you are free to cancel. You should also be protected, by means of your contract, should you come up against unforeseen circumstances that prevent completion of the project.

Don’t forget to list the small items on your contract as well. While the contractors are working on your property, they are going to require the use of certain facilities. For example, let them know if you are uncomfortable with them using your washroom and telephone. In this case, they’ll need to make alternate arrangements.

Cover Your Assets

Keep a copy of the home improvement contract that’s been signed by you and the contractor. This document must be filed in a safe place after the project has been completed. Be sure that any guarantees are clearly shown on the contract to provide legal backing if there is a problem with the materials or workmanship. You shouldn’t pay more than the minimum guaranteed down payment or pay the remainder of the agreed price until the project has been completely finished and all of the debris has been cleared away.

You have a responsibility to protect your property and your own best interests. Never sign a home improvement contract if it is not completely filled in. Take the time to read the contract in its entirety. If any of the terms confuse you, don’t be afraid to ask questions. After all, your home is your castle, and a home improvement contract should offer all the protection you need.

Bathroom Mirror Choices, Does It Matter?

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007
by Adam Peters

The right bathroom mirror is designed to provide you with a range of functions, but you may be impressed with the options that you have. Make your own bathroom mirror or find the ideal ready made solution.

The bathroom mirror in your newly decorated bathroom can be anything you want it to be, so long as it fits with any theme that you have created for this newly designed bathroom. There are plenty of options to take into consideration but most importantly you want to find the ideal bathroom mirror for that space.

Making Your Own

Although you could head out and purchase a bathroom mirror, why go that easy route? Why not get a bit creative and design your own bathroom fixtures and interior design? For those that enjoy working with wood products, start with a great frame that you design on your own. If that sounds like too much work, then purchase an unfinished, but framed mirror and do some fine tuning on your own. You can decorate the mirror any way that you would like to including choosing your own varnish or using a paint to create a special aged look to it. This way, you can decorate the mirror to match the room itself and all of the new work that you have put into it. In this case, find options that will fit with the style of the bathroom you have created. For example, for that sea side resort feel, why not use some various lengths of rope and even some shells to decorate the mirror. Use a quality but clear glue to adhere them. Or, you may want something completely different such as using photos of your loved ones around the mirror as a frame. Cover them with a coat of clear protection and it will be sealed for life.

Buying Pre Made

You may not be that ambitious when it comes to the bathroom mirrors that you need. Instead, you may want to purchase one that is already made for you. That is never a problem especially with the range of great options available to you. You will find various styles and colors to use as well as a variety of affordable prices. For an ultra modern look, go with stainless steel. Or, for a more traditional look, go with a wood frame to the bathroom mirror. If you do go with stainless steel, you have the advantage of being able to touch up fingerprints and smudges with a bit of baby oil applied to a cloth. On the other hand, a wood frame may be more difficult to keep clean. Consider this type of thing when looking for your mirror.

No matter what type of bathroom mirror you are looking for, make it your own in any way that you would like to! Find a bathroom mirror that fits with the look and feel that you are looking for in that bathroom.

by Shevach Pepper

Sibling rivalry is found in most families and is not uncommon. Dont stress when your kids fight and argue amongst themselves, it is part of the growing process. This does not always happen in every family but it does happen a lot.

Your children have a good overall relationship with one another and seem to be happy otherwise, sibling rivalry is nothing to worry about. When things get out of hand and sibling rivalry causes unhappiness in a child parents should step in. Ignoring the situation does not make it go away and could cause difficulty with close relationships and other problems for your child in the long run.

Here are some reasons for sibling rivalry, provocation, and jealousy:

Having a personality that is jealous or aggressive

A shortage of self-esteem

Poor social skills

People suffering from low self-esteem tend to be unhappy with themselves and seek validation from others, especially family members. If their view is outwardly focused in this way, they can become envious and think others are better than them. If this person also lacks social skills, they might relieve their frustration by “acting up” with their siblings. He or she might also be provoked easily. This is the main cause of sibling rivalry.

When it is possible to deal with unhealthy sibling rivalries indirectly, this is the best solution. Direct wheat dealing with sibling rivalry may impair as though you are taking sides. This may result in one child feeling as though they are being victimized and then becoming withdrawn or aggressive while blaming you for the situation.

Tips on dealing with sibling rivalry:

Give the child that is being alienated plenty of attention, support and love.

Spend time with the child in question. This boost self-esteem and makes him feel important.

Check the causes for the child’s unhappiness.

Encourage your child to confide in you. Don’t shout because this has an adverse effect on the situation.

When he has calmed down, ask him what he would advise a friend of his to do in a similar situation. He might come up with some original and helpful ideas.

Talk to his teacher at school. Ask for solutions or advice. Remember that teachers have plenty of experience when it comes to dealing with children. You can make a plan with the teacher of how to help the child.

You can visit, if need be, a child psychologist (without the child) for further advice and solutions.

Jealousy and sibling rivalry can begin at any age although it is usually during childhood while the child is attempting to create or discover his own identity that these problems arise. These problems may also occur during puberty, adolescents and even early adulthood depending on the individual situation. These situations are easier to deal with while child is young. As a child matures your advice may not be taken as easily.

Some of the closest siblings didnt start out that way; they had to work through their issues as well. In the end, if you make an honest effort to show your children how to get along and how to treat one another it will work out.

Tips To Start Breastfeeding

Friday, December 21st, 2007
by Keith Tennent

Breastfeeding is the natural way to feed your child. It is the only way to provide your baby with the required amount of nutrients. Formulas are poor substitutes for mother’s milk. All would-be moms know the benefits of breastfeeding, thanks to the dedicated propaganda extolling the merits of feeding mother’s milk to the newborn baby. However, when it comes down to the practicality of it, the new moms give up the effort for a variety of reasons. The most important reason is usually the new mom’s inability to get the hang of it. Even the doctors and nurses don’t give proper instructions to get the breastfeeding process started. This creates a frustrating situation for both mom and baby.

The first thing to remember is to sit in a comfortable position, preferably with your legs crossed in a manner that makes your lap comfortable for the baby. Then hold the baby in your arms to get the baby to latch on to the breast properly. You will need to guide the baby to help him latch on, especially if you have a lower supply of milk. If the baby is having trouble latching on properly, the baby will not be satisfied. This will make the whole process longer causing frustration to both mother and child.

The best way to overcome these hurdles is to follow your own intuition. As a mother, you will be able to understand the problem better than any body else. So, find your own solutions. Be patient; very soon everything will fall in place. But, don’t give up on it just because you didn’t get it right in the first attempt. Before you leave the hospital, make sure you make your baby latch on to the breast properly.

As a mother, it is your duty to eat a well balanced nutritious diet so that you can pass on the nourishment to your baby through breast milk. Cook simple but healthy meals at home and avoid junk food completely. You need to have healthy things in your body so that you produce healthy breast milk. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruit and watch your weight.

Breastfeeding is very important to keep your baby healthy. Only your breast milk provides the essential nutrients your baby needs as he or she starts to grow and develop. It has been proven that breastfeeding not only bonds mother and child, providing good nutrition, but it also helps a newborn baby fend off diseases and build a healthy and strong and immune system.

Although for some reason breastfeeding was not encouraged quite so much for years, there is a comeback. Now mothers and doctors are touting the benefits of breastfeeding and saying how important it is to breastfeed your child. It makes sense, if you think about it, simply because breastfeeding is the natural way to feed your newborn baby after giving birth. It is nature’s way of providing your child with much needed nutrients, and allows mother and child to bond and fall into a natural schedule for feeding.

Suggestions To Handle Infertility

Friday, December 21st, 2007
by Keith Tennent

Infertility has become a big problem with women in the modern world. It is at the root of many other disorders and diseases. But, the good news is that unless you have a mechanical problem with your body, you can get pregnant the natural way.

The basic cause of infertility is your incorrect life style. So, the first thing to do is to take all the necessary steps to improve your overall health. Make your life style choices wisely, and try and correct all the things that you are doing wrong, for instance, eat a balanced diet, follow a regular schedule of physical activity and above all be relaxed.Poor health leads to a disturbed state of mind, which in turn is the biggest hurdle in getting pregnant. The old adage of a sound mind in a sound body is true indeed, but to stretch it further, you must think of bringing a new life only in a sound body otherwise the problems can multiply.

Making good lifestyle choices can increase fertility. All it takes is to eat healthy food on a daily basis and include a daily regimen of exercise. Healthy food includes eating a lot of fruit and vegetables, dairy and protein products. A balanced and nutritious diet is essential to build more energy in the body and to make your reproductive system function properly.

Get a lot of exercise. Exercising a minimum of three times a week for 30 minutes each session will not only keep your weight at a certain level, but you’ll feel better overall and give your body a boost. Cardiovascular exercise in particular helps keep blood circulation flowing properly, which also affects the blood flow through your reproductive system. This increases regular ovulation and makes sure that hormone levels are being produced.

Strength training is not only beneficial for reducing excess fat and building bone density but it is useful in correcting your hormone levels that may have been obstructing the process of conception. It has been seen that when both partners lose weight, a pregnancy occurs.

It is important to give up smoking or consuming a lot of alcohol when you’re trying to get pregnant. Don’t wait to get pregnant and then give it up. Better stop now and you will increase your chances of becoming pregnant. An occasional drink is not harmful but heavy drinking and smoking can cause problems.

If you are getting older, you may be having problems conceiving because of your age. If you do conceive, you may also be at an increased risk for having a baby with birth defects. At the same time, if you generally lead a well balanced lifestyle and are healthy, you will improve your chances of becoming pregnant even if you’re a bit older.

The commonly prescribed remedy for infertility problems of conventional medicine called in vitro fertilisation, is not recommended because it is expensive, dangerous, and has a success rate of only 14%. On the other hand, alternative treatments work much better and without any risks.

Enhancing your fertility naturally can improve the likelihood of conceiving through alternative therapies, diet, exercise, and relaxation techniques and avoid some of the hazards associated with conventional treatments

Community Jobs For Dogs - What Breeds Are Most Suitable And Why.

Friday, December 21st, 2007
by Amy Nutt

As most people know, dogs are not only loving pets and companions. Many dogs also serve important functions in the community as well. Dogs help the police and military search for bombs, drugs and people. Dogs help blind people make their way through the world. Dogs work on farms and pastures and serve their masters as tough and militant guards and even soldiers. This article will discuss which breeds thrive in different tasks and why.

The organization Guide Dogs of America relies on three pure breeds to use as guide dogs for the blind. The majority of the guide dogs are Labrador Retrievers, followed by Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds. These breeds are chosen based on three behavioral characteristics: willingness, health and temperament. These dogs possess the intelligence and patience to assist their owners in the best way possible. They are robust, fit and well-suited to the task. They are also loyal and love people, which helps them stay focused in crowded situations. All three of these breeds also exhibit a variety of sizes, making them easier to pair with different owners.

The top three guard dog breeds are the Bullmastiff, Doberman and the Rottweiler. Bullmastiffs, which are 40% Bulldog and 60% Mastiff are loyal, courageous and very strong. These dogs have an inherent protective instinct and will bite or wrestle intruders to the ground. Dobermans are exceptionally intelligent dogs that vary in temperament, but generally they will not hesitate to attack if they feel their family is in danger. Rottweilers are also intelligent dogs, considered ninth most intelligent breed in the world. Rottweilers are calm and loving with their families, but also fiercely protective. They are very strong, have great stamina and are resistant to pain.

Depending on the task, many different breeds are used for police work. However, the most common police dog is the German Shepherd. The key attributes for an effective police dog are intelligence, strength, aggression and sense of smell. Most police German Shepherds are males, left unneutered to maintain their natural aggression and strength. German shepherds also possess a highly acute sense of smell and are very intelligent and trainable, making them excellent bomb and drug sniffing dogs as well as search and rescue dogs.

There are over a dozen common and well-qualified herding breeds, but the most well-known and best regarded of those breeds is the Border Collie. Border Collies are widely considered to be the smartest dogs in the world and because of this, dog obedience training of the breed is easy. With their high intelligence, the Border Collies demand difficult tasks. They are also highly agile and fast dogs, and their natural herding instinct makes them perfect farm dogs. Border Collies are also renowned for their performance in athletic competitions, and their powerful sense of smell makes them excellent search and rescue dogs.

As you can see, dogs are not just the loving, happy pets we often consider them to be. The breeds mentioned above are only a few of many types of dogs humans have bred throughout history to serve them. Though any of the breeds will make excellent pets, remember the purpose they were created to serve. Knowing what your dogs’ inherent instincts and abilities are will make you a better, more informed dog owner.
