When you want to sell your home, property, or cottage without a real estate agent you have a challenge ahead of you. But you are not alone. Hundreds of thousands of other homeowners, have chosen this option because they don’t want to pay large commissions to a real estate agent.
Unfortunately it is often not as easy as you think. All the experts agree the best way to be successful is to be prepared. Do your research and get your hands on as much expert advice as you can.
1. Get Ready to Sell Your Home
Find out as much as you can about selling your own home. First, check out as many for sale by owner (FSBO) websites as you can find. Look for the ones with a large number of listings, especially listings in your area. That indicates they get a lot of visitors.
Sign up for listings with as many sites as your budget will afford. Some sites offer free listings. Use these listings along with paid ones elsewhere whenever the site looks credible.
2. Legal Documents
When anyone sells a home, there are several important legal contracts and documents you must assemble, complete and understand. Get your hands on blank copies of these documents. Some fsbo websites will provide a package of documents. But be careful because each jurisdiction is different.
If you are serious you should consult a lawyer or a para-legal who provides real estate services.
